Bridge Resource Management (BRM) Volume 1

The Nautical Institute will launch a brand new 2-part series: Bridge Resource Management (BRM), which expands upon, updates and replaces its longstanding, globally respected Bridge Team Management (BTM) publication.

The new BRM series, complementary to IMO Model Course 1.22, takes a holistic view of BRM, exploring both human and technical resources on the modern-day bridge. It explores what good BRM looks like – not simply to avoid accidents but to pursue operational excellence, where people operate with quiet efficiency, effectively supported, fully informed and in control.

It’s featuring essential topics from multiple contributors, this new title moves beyond passage planning to consider human factors, from situational awareness to group dynamics, that help bridge teams to lay the foundations for operating a vessel safely and effectively.

How did one female officer’s appreciation of movie night etiquette help her build a solid, focused team? Can trust in cutting-edge technology put seafarers at risk? Why might a silent crew member be the one you
need to listen to most? All such issues are explored in Bridge Resource Management, Volume 1: The human element.

The BRM series comprises two inseparable and interdependent volumes.
